It seems like everyday someone points me to a new website. Well, the tables have turned... If you haven't already checked out Earth911.com, than you have no idea what you are missing! Everyone should take a minute and browse this easy to use website. I got hooked after moving in to my new house where I inadvertently accumulated an abundance of packaging peanuts. I wasn't quite sure what to do with them (now that we didn't need them), but I had a feeling the packaging peanuts served a higher purpose other than sitting in the landfill for the remainder of their life. Sure enough, I went to www.earth911.com, typed in packaging peanuts and my zip code and as quick as a Red Wiggler exposed to light, I instantly found a art gallery that took them free of charge!

Reinhard Sidor, Master Composter & Recycler volunteer, gives a lecture on "Practical Composting."
Instead of sending leaves to the landfill, Sidor composts the organic material right on his property.

Sending your leaf and yard waste to the landfill to be composted is not a bad decision, but why not compost them at home like Sidor does and reap the benefits of the "black gold" when it's all done decomposing?!?! An average of 15 cubic yards of shredded leaves is roughly what Sidor composts.
Participants that take the Master Composter & Recycler training program are encouraged to perform 30 hours of volunteer service relating to composting and recycling. As part of his commitment to the program, Sidor, graciously donates his time to teach others. Thanks Reinhard!!!

Rich Pederson, farm manager, at Southside Community Land Trust gives a talk on composting and all the different ways one could attain the "black gold" aka humus. The mission at Southside Community Land Trust is simple, yet powerful:

"Southside Community Land Trust provides access to land, education and other resources so people in Greater Providence can grow food in environmentally sustainable ways and create community food systems where locally produced, affordable, and healthy food is available to all. "

Included in the training that participants receive while enrolled in the Master Composter & Recycler program is a visit to Southside Community Land Trust; a visit that can't be missed!
